2 Life-Enhancing Resources that Helped Me and My Clients Recover from Severe Hair Loss

I cut my locks off in October 2017 because they were thinning.  I had two huge bald spots that led up to my big chop.  I went to see a doctor for blood work and a biopsy but the results came back inconclusive.

I decided to do the Zyto scan on myself and it suggested that I needed to support my gut and liver. The Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis (HTMA) showed that I could be suffering from food sensitivities that I consumed all the time.

I started making the recommended changes and my hair is coming back. The doctors didn’t know what to do next but another test, the past standard test, which didn’t show a chronic condition or deficiency.  This meant that the doctor didn’t have any suggestions.  So that left me to looking for alternative methods.

The 2 Life-Enhancing Resources

HTMA is a non-invasive laboratory test that measures the mineral content of a hair sample in order to determine, nutrient deficiencies, toxic levels and assist in balancing your biochemical makeup.

Zyto scan measures your biomarkers galvanic sensory to help recommend supplements or oils that will help support the markers that are out of balance.

How can hair analysis help achieve better health?

It helps discover what your body needs when it needs it.  This valuable tool indicates which supplement to take and which to avoid.

We are now offering HTMA with our health assessments/ consultations. Hair has been used for many years as an indicator for nutritional deficiencies and toxicity levels they may contribute to many health issues we are often struggling with including hair loss.

Our programs are personalized to help individuals begin healthier ways of cooking real food, control cravings for things like sugar, caffeine, increase energy, minimize symptoms caused by illnesses such as hair loss, diabetes, high blood pressure, cancer treatments and respiratory issues.

How To Reverse Damage Done To Our Hair And Skin During The Summer

Summer is finally here! July is the month when Summer vacations are happening, we are letting our hair down, relaxing soaking up the sun, swimming, enjoying outdoor activities, cookouts etc.

The thing is, we neglect our hair and skin during this time. We are very laid back when it comes to protecting our hair, skin and nails.

This month we want to talk about having a skin analysis. How we maintain our hair and skin in the winter is different from the summer. We often think why do we have to cleanse, moisturize or protect our skin in the Summer it’s hot & muggy how can this hurt me. The sun’s UV rays can be harmful to anyone’s skin, we are exposed to more environmental toxicities and more. These factors can wreak havoc on our skin. Some African Americans think we are exempt from UV rays because of our natural layer of protection of our deeper skin colors, this is far from the truth.

Why is a skin analysis important?

It’s all about diving deep into your skin history so we can provide the most realistic appraisal of your entirely individual skin story. Your skin story is different from mine, your mom or your best friends. You truly are unique, so our information gathering includes a detailed questionnaire and the use of technology such as face imaging and woods lamp diagnosis. These tools enable us to present you with a comprehensive skin fitness plan and the best education that is specific and relevant to you, your skin and your overall wellness.

How often should you get a skin analysis?

Seasonally is most ideal! If you’re serious about your skin health, having a skin analysis every 3-4 months ensures you can re adjust your skin program as necessary – stressful life events (or just ongoing chronic stress), environmental exposures (think relative humidity, holidays, outdoor activities) changes in food/liquid choices, exercise choices and many other lifestyle factors will all contribute to internal cell changes. Internal changes eventually progress into external, visual changes. Your skin is a dynamic, constantly changing organ who’s nutrient requirements also change over the year. Keeping on top of these changes ensures you’re keeping your skin in the best health possible… and this is what gives you that gorgeous skin glow!

Protective Styles, Are They Really Protecting Your Hair and Scalp?

Spring is finally here, the time when you want a new summer look, or wear “ protective” styles (braiding, weaves etc)  to keep from having to do our hair or your going on vacation to your favorite place but don’t want to be a slave to your hair, I totally understand.

Are these styles really protecting our hair? Or are we doing more damage to it by leaving them in all summer and not taking care of our scalp and hair. Bacteria, breakage and scalp irritation is what we see when our clients return to their regular scheduled appointments at the end of the summer.

Here are a few tips to support a healthy hair & scalp during the Summer

Start by having your hair shampooed, deep conditioned and put a moisturizing leave in cond in  before you have your protective style done.

  1. If you are going to wear braids make sure they are not to tight, or too long because they can break at the root and get heavy which can damage the hair follicle and cause thinning.
  2. Do not wear style for more than 4 weeks. Sweat and dampness from water creates a great environment for fungus and bacteria on the scalp.
  3. Clean scalp daily with an astringent (example witch hazel) infused with Tea Tree essential oil, Coconut or Jojoba oil to help prevent  bacteria growth.
  4. Shampoo with a clarifying shampoo after each time  swimming & sweating.
  5. Shampoo especially if  you are going to swim in chlorine, it can cause breakage and dryness .
  6. If you are going on a vacation, remove it remove the style,  shampooed & deep conditioned when you return.
  7. Do not relax your hair before  getting weave or braids this  can cause permanent damage to the hair and hair follicles. Rule of thumb: 6-8 weeks after your last relaxer is the safest time to braid because you should have sufficient new growth.
  8. Make your appointment with your stylist for the next four weeks to restore your hair..
  9. Bonus, style your own natural hair to protect it 😊.
